In May 1996, 21-year-old Stephen Cameron was out for a drive with his 17-year-old fiancée, Danielle Cable when a confrontation with another driver ended in tragedy. Stabbed to death at the side of the road, Stephen’s killing shocked the nation and became known as Britain’s first road rage murder.

As detectives worked to identify the suspect, they received intelligence that pointed to Kenneth Noye - a notorious criminal already linked to some of Britain’s most high-profile crimes, including the the Brinks-Mat gold robbery and the killing of undercover police officer John Fordham. 

Thirty years on, this two-part documentary series revisits the case through a fresh lens, exploring the relationship between police and the powerful tabloid media of the 1990s - raising enduring questions about crime reporting and the impact on victims and their families.

Featuring interviews from people speaking publicly about the case for the first time, the series examines how media attention glamorising Kenneth Noye contributed to a culture that allowed notorious criminals to become figures of public fascination. 

Central throughout is Danielle Cable, who witnessed Stephen’s murder and then found herself thrust into the centre of a nationwide manhunt, helping police identify the suspect while dealing with the trauma of what she had witnessed.
