FROM GAMING TO MURDER

Told by Breck Bednar’s family and friends, this powerful series reveals how the innocent world of an online gaming group became the stalking ground of a predator. Lewis Daynes created a fantasy life of a tech millionaire in order to isolate and groom 14-year-old Breck.  Despite Breck’s parents’ desperate efforts to protect him, Daynes lured Breck to his murder with the most cynical of lies.

A two part series for Amazon Prime Video

Breck loved Minecraft and his sisters remember watching 'in awe' as he played it - it's a nice memory and this documentary is full of them at the start, because it's full of Breck's family and friends looking back on the boy they lost. Breck's mum Lorin remembers hearing Daynes's voice, and noticing how much her son seemed to look up to the older boy, who always seemed to be online but also claimed to be involved in secretive work. 'I was trying to gather information in a warm and friendly way,' she remembers. It got worse and worse from there, and Breck's parents (who were separated) tried to stage an intervention to stop him seeing Daynes. The first part deals with the build-up to the murder, and the second with the fallout and the investigation and reveals more about Daynes's life. 'The more I found out about this guy, I felt sorry for him. His childhood was horrible,' reflects Breck's father Barry about Lewis. As you can see, this is a documentary full of empathy.
